Part-time Library Associate (Children's Services)

The Gloucester City Library is seeking a motivated and customer service minded part-time children service library associate to work 10-20 hours/week at $20.00/hr. The main responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing and delivering age-appropriate story time, crafts time and other children's programs, serving patrons of all ages at the front desk, conducting library tours and reaching out to the local schools and communities.

Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with at least one year of related experience; availability for evening shifts and weekend shifts; strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills; effectively promotes library services in a positive and professional manner when interacting with the public.

If the chosen applicant is a not a New Jersey resident, he or she must become a bona fide New Jersey resident to be appointed to the position within the timeframe designated by the Library, not to exceed one year. Full-time Children/Teen Librarian

Duties:

Reporting to the library director, the children/teen librarian will perform a variety of duties including but not limited to planning and conducting story-times, summer reading programs, and other creative programs for both children and teens, selecting and maintaining children's and teen's print and non-print materials, providing reader's advisory, outreaching local schools and community groups, utilizing emerging technologies to boost services to children and teens, assisting as needed at the circulation desk and on the public computers.

Evening and weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Requirements: strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills; enthusiastic about working with juveniles of all ages; must have team-working qualities to positively interact with other employees; knowledge of current trends and practices in children and teen services, literature and materials; strong awareness and interest in implementing current technologies into library services.

MLS from an ALA accredited school and Professional Librarian's Certificate issued by Thomas Edison State College. Current MLIS/MLS student with children/teen track who have completed most credits will be considered.

Compensation:

$45,000 for certified librarian with generous benefits package provided through City of Gloucester
